Unusual Apple Pie

Ingredients

  • For five or six helpings:

Filling

  • Pound and a half (650g) of Bramley apples, or other cookers
  • 6 tablespoons of water
    Topping
  • 5 oz (60g) wholewheat flour
  • 3 oz (60g) sugar
  • 5 oz (60g) rolled porridge oats
  • 4 oz (120g) dairy free margarine
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 4 tablespoons of golden syrup

Method

  • Preheat the oven to gas mark four, 180 degrees.
  • Peel, core and eighth the apples, and place in the bottom of the casserole dish.
  • Sprinkle the water over them.
  • Melt the margarine, sugar and syrup in a pan.
  • As soon as the mixture is liquid, stir in the oats, cinnamon and flour. The mixture should now be a solid dough.
  • Spread this dough over the apples, and make a large hole in the centre for the steam to escape.
  • Bake for forty minutes in the oven, until the topping is browned slightly.
