Walnut and Date Loaf
Ingredients
- 6oz Self raising flour
- 2 oz wholemeal flour
- pinch of salt
- 1 1/2 oz Sainsbury free from margarine
- 3 oz stoned dates
- 1 oz walnuts
- 1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
- 4 oz golden syrup
- 2-3 tablespoons soya or rice milk
Method
- Mix the flours and salt together and rub in the margarine. Add the dates and nuts.
- Dissolve the bicarbonate of soda in a little milk. Slightly warm the syrup.
- Make a well in the centre of the dry ingredients and add the syrup and bicarbonate of soda with enough milk to make a light,sticky dough.
- Turn it into a greased and floured bread tin and bake at 375 f, for about an hour until well risen and firm underneath
