Viva
http://www.viva.org.uk/
Viva! was founded in 1994 by Juliet Gellatley, who is the
organisation’s director. Viva believes that
“The most powerful action you can take to end animal
suffering, improve your health, protect the environment and bring
fairness to the world’s poor is to stop eating meat,
dairy and fish. Support us and help Viva! campaign for a better
world.†Juliet Gellatley, Founder & Director of Viva!
Viva! campaigns for a vegetarian/vegan world because most farmed
animals spend their short and miserable lives in the filth of
factory farms and are killed with sickening barbarity. Viva exposes
this abuse by secretly going inside these shameful places and
filming the suffering – publicising it with
nationwide campaigns that bring about change.
Animal Aid
http://www.animalaid.org.uk
Animal Aid is the UK's largest animal rights group and one of
the longest established in the world, having been founded in 1977.
They campaign peacefully against all forms of animal abuse and
promote a cruelty-free lifestyle. We investigate and expose animal
cruelty, and our undercover investigations and other evidence are
often used by the media, bringing these issues to public
attention.
RSPCA
http://www.rspcaleicester.org.uk /
The Woodside Animal Centre takes in and cares for stray and
unwanted pets. They also aid the recovery and return of injured
wildlife to their natural habitat and care for animal victims of
cruelty. Each year approximately 3500 animals are cared for at
Woodside and we are completely self-funding - they receive no aid
from the state, the National Lottery or RSPCA headquarters. Their
weekly running costs are in excess of £11,000. Woodside is
licensed to accommodate up to 74 dogs at any one time and we are
nearly always full. Their purpose-built cattery holds 72 cats, all
of which are micro-chipped and neutered before they leave the
Centre. They also have accommodation for birds, rabbits, rodents
and ferrets. The Hillside www.hillside.org.uk Hillside Animal
Sanctuary was founded in 1995 to help and campaign for animals in
need' and most importantly, to bring public awareness to the
millions of animals suffering every day in the intensive factory
farming industry. Although at Hillside we have given sanctuary to
300 horses, ponies and donkeys, most of our residents have been
rescued from the farming industry.

Peta
http://www.peta.org
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), with more than
2 million members and supporters, is the largest animal rights
organization in the world. PETA focuses its attention on the four
areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most
intensely for the longest periods of time: on factory farms, in
laboratories, in the clothing trade, and in the entertainment
industry. We also work on a variety of other issues, including the
cruel killing of beavers, birds and other "pests," and
the abuse of backyard dogs. PETA works through public education,
cruelty investigations, research, animal rescue, legislation,
special events, celebrity involvement, and protest
campaigns.

vegetarian organisation in the world. It is an educational charity

Hippo
http://www.hippocharity.org.uk
Is a charity which supports FOOD AID WITH A PURPOSE and argues that
there is an URGENT NEED FOR CHANGE There is an urgent need for
change in the direction of world agriculture because of the rapid
trends in the wrong direction that are currently taking place. The
so-called Green Revolution delivered a large increase in
agricultural production through the application of technology
(scientific plant breeding, chemical weedkillers, insecticides and
fungicides etc.) but it was achieved at a huge cost of pollution,
damage to the environment such as the destruction of natural
forests, damage to human health, and suffering to animals caused by
intensive 'factory farming' methods. In the western world
the real financial cost has been disguised by governments'
willingness to load taxpayers instead of the farmer, the food
industry and the consumer. This is especially so with meat. The
taxpayer foots the bill for dealing with the consequent animal
disease crises (BSE, Foot & Mouth, TB etc.), food poisoning
emergencies, pollution of the natural environment and water
supplies, the human health problems caused or exacerbated by eating
animal products (a burden on health services), and direct subsidies
on the production and processing of meat and milk. It is high time
that the consumers of meat and dairy products paid at the till for
the full cost of their production.
BUAV
http://www.buav.org/
For over 100 years the BUAV has been campaigning peacefully to
create a world where nobody wants or believes we need to experiment
on animals. Through undercover investigations, political lobbying,
the promotion of cruelty free products, legal and scientific
expertise and media activities the BUAV works tirelessly to make
the world a better place for animals. They work lawfully and
professionally, building relationships with MPs, MEPs, business
leaders and other decision-makers. They also analyse legislation
and sit on decision-making panels around the globe, to act as the
voice for laboratory animals. They are determined in our fight to
achieve positive lasting change in legislation to make a long-term
difference for animals.
SHADH donkeys in the holyland
http://www.safehaven4donkeys.org/
Lucy set up Safe Haven seven years ago to reach out to the unwanted
and abused donkeys of Israel and Palestine. She runs a sanctuary
which adopts these gentle and intelligent beasts of burden and that
is asking people to support her urgent appeal to buy the farm that
is our "peaceable donkey kingdom". She writes…
Our sanctuary is the fundamental reason for everything we do.
Visiting the farm and standing among these gentle creatures one
would never believe they had lived through such terrible abuse
– each animal is visibly content and at peace. They
are able to roam free in the little individual herds that they form
in the sanctuary’s fields by day and are safely
locked in their comfy barns at night. Please, please consider
setting up a monthly standing order for just 18 months (the
duration of the appeal) or, if you are unable to commit to this,
making a single gift to the appeal so that I can make sure all the
little donks continue to be safe from pain and fear.
