Roy and Alex tell their story about why and how they became vegan...

Even though we have both been born into a vegetarian family, we both have been vegan since 1993 and we cannot imagine living any other way.

We both adore animals and all of nature and the thought of unnecessarily ‘sacrificing’ animal life or eating and drinking animal secretions from animals kept in dire conditions to 'produce' these, for the sake of our taste buds, is unimaginable.

However, in order to become vegan, there were a lot of myths about the necessity of milk and fish in a healthy diet for example, and on the other hand myths about the unbalanced nature of a vegan diet, that we had to overcome.

We were pleased to discover that our lifestyle choice happens to be a choice that allows us to have a smaller carbon footprint as no cattle is releasing methane into the atmosphere on our behalf. Similarly, it was a pleasant realisation when we discovered that our lifestyle choice happens to be generous towards the poor and hungry of this world, as feeding a vegan requires far less crop-producing land.

We both care about what goes into our bodies as we believe our bodies are the temple of the living God. In Genesis 1:28, 29 God created both animals and humans to have a vegan lifestyle and all was perfect. Reading Isaiah 11:6 and 65:25 makes it is clear that when the new earth and heaven is established, all humans and animals will be vegan once more and perfection will be restored. Though we are now living in a fallen world our hope is for the perfect world to come. So we are keen to follow God’s guidance given in the Bible and live our lives here and now in a compassionate way towards all humans and animals.

As a bonus we have been blessed with improved health and vitality, not to mention many like-minded friends obviously including other types of living creatures.
